WinSquid - Proxy Server for Windows
The Squid is a proxy server for Linux / BSD widely known and used. I'm no expert in computer networks, but I understand some of this area, because I have the philosophy that you need to know a little bit of everything and quite a bit. Some of the functions of a proxy server are: filter the content coming from the Internet to a local network, to cache the pages you visit to speed up and optimize the use of the band. The filtering of content coming from the Internet to computers on a network is used to prevent improper access to pages that are not permitted by the policies of a company, such as porn websites, videos or piracy. The Squid performs this job very well. How does work in the area of networks, never had the need to use this type of software for the purposes mentioned.
I had used a proxy server freeware, and simple, for Windows, AnalogX Proxy, just to share the Internet connection of a bright ADSL modem (a modem router already has software in it that allows the connection sharing). But a few days ago a cousin asked me to share the internet from my mother's house with her (and the two are neighbors). My mother has a modem router that allows this share without any additional software as a proxy server, but my cousin asked me to block access to porn sites, so that her son, pre-teen, would not be visiting this type of site. So I had to look for in a Web server for Windows, to undertake the task of filtering traffic interet.
Soon, looking in google, I found the WinSquid, a "clone" of Squid for Windows. I do not know if he does everything that Squid does, but for what I needed it was perfect. It has an installer that automates the installation, however, even though he let you change the installation path, the version I used (can not remember how many) did not work in a different folder than the default, because the configuration files have not changed for the path chosen during installation. Lucky I detect the problem fast and reinstalled using the default folder. I had never worked with Squid in life, but quickly found documentation on the official website of WinSquid showing how to configure the server, specifically the section configuration of access control. Apparently the configuration should look like the Squid on Linux / BSD. Soon he was with the proxy server filtering out content from the Internet. Simply include the rules denying access to pages with unwanted content.
The problem I encountered was the need to restart your computer for the new policies take effect, because by the windows can not restart the WinSquid (up to prevent users from wise guys to do that). Do not bother to fix this because I was in a hurry, but must have a form, and simple to do this. I've tried and recommend.

At least in URL's, filter WinSquid addresses with the words set.
From what I saw Winsquid is very interesting. I use Squid on Slackware distribution. But now with this version for Windows opens a legal perspective, so that he who does not want to install Linux. But my question is: to install Winsquid I have to have 2 network cards which will be installed Winsquid? That is, a plate connected to the modem and one for internal network. Was it?
Well, I am no expert on networks. The configuration that I was only on a machine with a single network adapter. I have a server on the network wanted to filter access to only this particular machine, so WinSquid installed and configured the browser to use proxy.
Hello Pssgyn think I can help it any proxy whose main function is an attorney (as translated) and asks you to say something to him is that he will back to you, for example when you request a page on the Internet is it going the server where it is hosted, brings and gives him, in that case the proxy can implement various functions such as saving for page caching, content filtering even authenticate a User to have some kind of access to one of these aggregate functions no less important is to act as a type of router (between network interfaces) that is widely used, so the confusion that often exists the need for more than one network card, then any proxy can be deployed only with a plate (including Squid) .
Hello, already installed several times in the squid server machines running a Linux distribution.
I always wondered if there was a distribution for windows, and tried the net and only found similar builds, until I found the one on the site of squid (http://www.squid-cache.org).
Of course he does not support all functions of the squid for windows (who says this is the site itself), but to share the net and prevent some Web sites are accessible, works fine.
has two versions, one with support for Delay Pools, and another with SSL support.

He has the option of wheels from the command line (DOS), or install as a service. It can be restarted at any time. The inconvenience is that it is compiled to run on the C: \ squid, it is not possible to run starting at another unit.
Its configuration is equal to the squid for Linux through the squid.conf file.
It is worth testing this build.
I use a winsquid time ñ and you have to restart the computer for further amendments are made, and you just go on control panel, Admnistrativas tools, services and seek winsquid there at the end of the list and restart the service, go! saved time for man.
